Hello Lagos Navigators!
I would like to introduce myself and give you a heads-up on the plans for Ayamar. The first thing to say is that I will be delivering to Lagos every Friday afternoon at 16:00. Obviously, if you want items that are not in stock, we would need to order them, and so the delivery day for you may be the Friday on the following week (our turn-around for orders is usually two to three days).
Although I´m the new owner, John and Diane and still very much involved (try keeping John down!). Diane is in the shop on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, John is usually with her (to answer the most challenging of technical questions). I have a great deal to learn from John and Diane, so bear with me, John has probably forgotten more than the rest of us know.
For those who know Marcha, she will continue to work in the shop. On 1st April we start our summer opening times (currently we open 10:00 to 15:00 Monday to Saturday), and Marcha will be in the shop Monday to Thursday from 15:00 to 19:00 (Summer openings: Monday to Friday 10:00 ti 19:00, Saturdays 10:00 to 15:00). For the foreseeable future, I will be in the shop most days.
A little about me... I served for 12 years in the Royal Marines, with 3 years of those on ships working on landing craft (HMS Hermes and HMS Fearless). I used to race dinghies back in the day, and occasionally crewed for the skipper of the Corps yacht "Per Mare" (Hallberg-Rassy). I left the Royal Marines in 1993 to go back to university, and I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2001 (the training is very long). I recently retired from the NHS as Consultant Clinical Psychologist. I intend to continue my practice in Spain and Portugal (once Ayamar is running as smoothly as I would like).
I live on my Dufour 36cc here in Ayamonte, and I have two wonderful daughters 20 and 22.
Website and Catalogs
I was anticipating the 2020 catalogs being ready and distributed by now but, as with most of the best laid plans ...........(etc. etc.) it hasn't happened - I am confident that they will be ready for distribution by the end of February. Similarly, the website was scheduled to go live on 1st January, but still hasn't been fully constructed, again, end of February hopefully. I am particularly excited about the website; so far its looking great, I just have to try and make sure that there are no glitches so that you can order easily on line. For now you just need to email (or ring) and refer to the 2019 catalog if you have it.
Although there is a new fresh look to Ayamar, it is very much business as usual. John and Diane have worked hard over the years to secure good trading arrangements with suppliers, and we will continue to be competitive; indeed, on many products the competition (who will remain nameless (S!$#?@%&R) cannot touch us. With the introduction of free deliveries to all of the main Algarve locations (starting with Lagos), and hopefully all of the main Southern Spain locations eventually, we want to continue to offer an excellent service along with excellent value for money. On the subject of deliveries, if you want any items urgently, you can still opt for paying for delivery outside of the scheduled marina delivery days, and the costs for that remain the same as last year.
What can I say about flares? What a pain in the neck. I fully intend to be selling flares, the problem has been, and continues to be the regulations around storing explosives on site. The advice we get from various sources (Gaurdia, architects, Local Government Officials) is often conflicting and is certainly confusing. We have re-charged our efforts to stock and supply flares to you, and I hope that we can report favourably on that before April 1st. We won´t be able to deliver flares ourselves, but we have an arrangement with our delivery firm who will be able to do that (costs will apply, of course). You can always pick up flares from the shop in person one we have a necessary certification to store and supply them.
Thank you for the welcome that I have already had from some of you, and I look forward to meeting the rest. Please note the new website and contact details are above. If you use any older email addresses they will automatically be forwarded, so that shouldn't be a problem. The new website has a new address, and that is shown above..
